Training Philosophy
The Yin & Yang symbolizes two parts that compliment each other: Mental unifies what goes in and what goes out, Fuel has diet & nutrition, Strength involves weight training and cardio, and Lifestyle intertwines career and personal. Everything always has a silver lining, it's in the eye of the beholder. I believe it's the successful, goal driven individuals, that really take advantage of obstacles and see opportunities. It's never a straight road, it's constant adjustments and ever going. Even if something works now, it might not work in a few months or a year from now, as circumstances, situations, and our own bodies adapt and change and grow constantly. Let's break down the four aspects of the Quad Training.
Mental: Both what you think, speak, and create must support your goal for success to be achieved
What goes in: Reading positive materials towards your goals: books, magazines, published articles, web sites on fitness, diet programming, workout programs, knowledge on therapy exercises and so forth. As well as surrounding yourself with like minded people who also breath fitness or support your goals.. Reaching out to those who have achieved what you want or can help you get there and heed their advice.
What goes out: Distancing yourself from negative nay sayers, unproductive surroundings, and distracting elements. Taking action towards your goals, written or verbal reminders, sharing your goals with others. Let it be known, don't be shy or ashamed to be better.
Fuel: Energy is key for progress so diet and nutrition is key.
Fuel:Whether you're a meat eater or vegetarian, protein/fats/and carbs are a must for a fit physique. As long as you balance these macro-nutrients to replenish your energy output, or goal requirements ,you'll succeed. Quality is extremely important to see results sooner than later. We all have different factors that affect how clean we can eat and we can put blame on finances, regional location, people in our lives, or weakness to say no to bad food or do something about it to get where we want to be.
Nutrition: Micro-nutrients are essential to keep healthy body functions. The main reason we eat food is to utilize these micro-nutrients in them that our body needs to stay at optimum performance levels. Due to our schedules, finances, emotional highs-lows, living situations, or just any reason we decide is an excuse we sometimes fail to provide our bodies with the right amount of healthy foods. We lean on convenience, high fat, and empty calorie food replacements to make us "feel" like we've fed our body what it needs. It's kind of like using kerosine in a gas lawnmower, it'll work for a while yea, but then it'll ruin some rubber parts inside the carburetor and then won't run. Yes it takes longer to ruin your body but everything adds up eventually.
Strength: Weights and cardio work together to create sexiness out of dough :-)
Weight training: Build muscle which in turn increases metabolism, helps keep skin tight, shows definition of muscles, improves the body's reflexes, balance, and coordination in relation to performance. Training prepares the body for the unexpected that crosses our path so we aren't defeated. It's about being prepared, not caught off guard.
Cardio: Helps improves blood flow to the heart, lung capacity, and burns fat. Best done after a workout because that's when the body switches from carb energy use to fat energy use. So even if you end up doing less cardio after your weight training because you are tired, you'll actually target more of those fat cells that you want to loose.
Lifestyle: Business & Pleasure are a must
Business: You have to be fit to perform your career, job, profession, or whatever you are doing to sustain your lifestyle and do it for as long as you can. Basic fitness is involved if you have to sit all day using good posture to support back muscles that sitting for long hours takes a toll on, to heavy lifting from construction labor to warehouse stocking, to athletes who need to stay fit to perform at their peak, to teachers who watch kids and have to run around to keep track of them. The healthier you can be to execute your business duties will allow you to better enjoy the better half of why we even work for a living, to enjoy life, make memories, and spend them with those we love.
Pleasure: There's a certain sense of ease when you are able to do everything you want for yourself, loved ones, family, friends, travel, and leisure sport and not worry about injuring yourself. To not be winded two minutes into doing anything you want to do for enjoyment. This is why we do what we do, so why not put in the work so our bodies can sustain our lifestyle until the last day possible.
These 4 aspects of the Quad Training are important to starting any fitness program here at Gio's Balanced Fitness. Once we figure out why you are trying to improve your fitness it transcends into the programming template. Goal has a reason which boils down to the lifestyle you're trying to achieve. So we have a start and end. The few points in the middle help us get there. Some are stronger mentally to resist temptation or outside influence from others, while others give in easier or can be swayed. It doesn't mean one is better than the other, but it's about syncing up all we do to help us get what we want. The sooner we gain control of each quadrant, the faster we'll see results. So training and diet isn't too far and although it may seem overwhelming at times, it's about one step at a time.
It's about small steps and slowly adapting the right changes to get you to your goal. It's not doing it all right from the beginning because it'll burn you out if you can't. It's about one step at a time. You eat 2 meals a day, then first goal is 3 meals. Once you can be consistent with that like brushing your teeth will be then add a fourth meal. Maybe it's 2 miles cardio a week, even though the goal is 12. Do 2 for 2 week, then try 3 and when you can get that down for a few weeks, then shoot for 5 until you get it. You have to eat 5-7 meals a day, eat the right caloric intake to reach your goal, be positive, eliminate negatives, and macro, micro, mesomorph, soreness, injuries, creatine, and the list goes on to overwhelm anybody. So we start where you are and progress to your pace that you can make part of your lifestyle.
Fitness isn't temporary, it's life. We are here to help so we take everyone at their pace, push where we see we can, and stay with you every step of the way. We believe everyone can succeed, and some need some help and guidance and that's why we're here.
Education
Bio
A year later I was an amazing 7% bodyfat! I did this by training 5 days a week for 45-75 minutes, which included 12-15 miles cardio and/or mixed martial arts days, self educating on the fitness industry, cutting out junk food and improving meal quality, and taking the right supplements.
Fitness wasn't my calling. As a matter of fact construction was the family business and my career was almost set in stone. After doing construction for 5 years I had a change of heart and switched career paths. I walked into the 3 of the biggest gym locations in the Naperville area in 2008.
The fitness manager at the time that interviewed me saw my potential and our chemistry sparked success. I got nationally certified through NESTA, CPR/Blood Pathogen Certified, Stretch Certified, Kickbox Certified, and Power Plate Certified shortly after. Within 3 months I'd excelled and became one of the top leading trainers at that facility.
Exactly one year after entering the fitness industry I started my personal training business, Gio's Balanced Fitness. I wanted a unique name that embodied who I was and the essence of the yin & yang, so incorporating the sign into my middle name was perfect. The choices and interactions made along the way made all the pieces fall in place, telling me this was the path I was suppose to be on.
A year and a half later Gio's expanded from a 10x10 area in my apartment complex to an 8,000 sq ft sports training facility that I rented space from. Although the extra space was great, I couldn't see Gio's expanding to the level I wanted under the wings of a sports facility. Utilizing that experience I immediately decided to go on my own commercially and open up a training studio that fitness enthusiasts and friends in the industry could call a home.
Partnering up with a client who over the years became a close friend and business mentor, we managed to allocate funds to open up Gio's Balanced Fitness, LLC. It wasn't easy to take that jump, but luckily I had the right people in my corner my drive and timing synced perfectly.
Now Gio's is an amazing commercial facility, with 6 great trainer friends, and a home to dozens of Gio's clients who are the essence of our success. They're clients, friends, and over the years a wonderful Gio's family.
You never know what life has in store for you, but luckily I had friends and family supporting my every decision along the way. It wasn't easy, I had many ups and down in my personal, work, and life, but I managed to push through because it was up to me. I was taught not to blame myself or anybody for where my life was. Everything happens for a reason, and luckily I/we decide our faith and I took the opportunities that arose despite the risk and made sacrifices for the bigger picture.
With that part of my life shared, I hope to see you, and that you allow me to share as much of the knowledge that I've learned along the way. My goal is to help you improve your health and ultimately feel better about life and be more able to physically enjoy life to its fullest with those that you hold dearest to you.
