Personal Trainer Overview
Taekwon-Do is the Korean art of self-defense, created by Gen. Choi Hong Hi, founder of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, in the year 1955. Its' foundations are based on a centuries old Korean martial art called Taekyon, as well as Judo, Hapkido, Karate and other old styles. Although these ancient arts were used as references, the fundamental theories and principles of Taekwon-Do are totally different from any other martial art in the world.
Taekwon-Do is a version of the unarmed combat designed for the purpose of self-defense, although, it is also practiced as a sport and an excellent means of physical & mental fitness. It's physical techniques are based on the principles of modern science, in particular, Newtonian physics which teaches us how to generate maximum power. Military tactics of attack and defense have also been incorporated.
On the spiritual level, Taekwon-Do is derived from the traditional, ethical and moral principles of the Orient and, of course, from the Founder, Gen. Choi Hong Hi.
Translated literally "tae" stands for jumping or flying, to kick or smash with the foot. "Kwon" denotes the first--chiefly to punch or destroy with the hand. "Do" means an art or way. Thus taken collectively "Taekwon-Do" indicates the mental training and the techniques of unarmed combat for self-defense as well as health, involving the skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks, throws and dodges with bare hands and feet to the rapid destruction of the moving opponent or opponents.

Bio
"I joined the USTF/ITF 1996. After some time with Karate, Kung Fu and Hapkido. I chose USTF/ITF Taekwon-Do because I appreciate it’s scientific and practical approach to self-defense. Also, the Moral Culture of the art is sincere and much needed; an aspect of Martial Arts often neglected in many other styles, systems and sports. Many people think of Taekwon-Do as a kicking art and dont understand that "True" Taekwon-Do was developed for the military and is a very well balanced art. There are many more hand techniques and Ho Sin Sul (grappling) techniques then kicks. In the mid 1900’s South Korean General Choi Hong Hi created Taekwon-Do as "the" Martial Art of Korea, an art his country could be proud of, an art designed strictly for self-defense.
General Choi was able to test and perfect his techniques and training methods in the military. He documented every aspect and detail of the art in a 15 volume encyclopedia set making it the most thoroughly documented art available. His encyclopedia set, along with my Instructors, are the result of my success and the success of my students. Thank you Mr. Larry Beighler, Mr. Jim Rebic, Master Dan Huntington and Sr. Master Art Schoonover."
