Personal Trainer Overview

Active Life Fitness is THE fitness venue for men and women, age 40 plus, who want to feel younger and age better. We are dedicated to inspiring, educating and empowering our members to live healthier, happier, more active lives.

Our members believe aging should not be a reason to stop participating in the activities they love. Many are passionate about hiking, tennis, golf, basketball, dancing, swimming, cycling, running or even playing in the backyard with their children or grandchildren.

Some want to be able to perform strenuous daily activities such as yard work, grocery shopping, housework, and climbing stairs. Others love to challenge themselves to get better every day.

Our comprehensive training program, along with nutritional guidance, will help you to move better, look better, feel better and play better.

Training Philosophy

Training Philosophy:

-Train movements not individual muscles

-Quality of movement over quantity of movements

-You cannot compensate for poor nutrition by increasing your exercise duration or frequency

-Muscle and Strength beats Fat and Weakness

If it hurts, don't do it

-There are many tools to get the job done

-You've been sitting all day, so you will not do much of it at the gym

Education

I am certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I am also a Certified Functional Aging Specialist. I have 15 years experience as a Personal Trainer, Fitness Coach and Facility Manager.

Bio

Marty Musikant has been helping people pursue their fitness goals since 1998 and has loved doing it. Marty has trained hundreds of clients ranging in age from 10 to 85. These individuals have come to him with a wide array of health and fitness goals including losing fat, gaining strength, improving movement and achieving better overall health. Marty’s approach to fitness is comprehensive, centered around the philosophy that there are many factors influencing the attainment of a fitness goal, including proper nutrition, training and recovery. Fitness and physical activity have always held an important role in Marty’s life. In high school, he was a competitive athlete, excelling in both football and wrestling, his favorite sports. It was both the physical aspect and the competitive nature of athletics that drove him to participate. Marty was able to combine his passion for wrestling and his desire to help kids by becoming a high school wrestling coach. During his five-year tenure as a coach, Marty was able to hone his coaching skills, skills that to this day remain a valuable asset in his continued success as a personal trainer.

Marty’s experience is not limited to the health and fitness industry. He graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in Food Service Management and worked in the food industry until 1998. For eight years, he owned and operated a deli.

Marty currently stays physically active with intense workouts at the gym, running sprints at the high school track, riding his bicycle, hiking with his family, and playing the occasional game of tennis.

Continuing education is an essential part of his life. Staying current with the latest fitness research and methodologies allows him to provide the best results for his clients. Marty’s Fitness certifications include:

-National Strength and Conditioning Association, Certified Personal Trainer

-National Academy of Sports Medicine, Certified Personal Trainer

-Functional Aging Institute, Functional Aging Specialist

-Functional Movement Screen
