Personal Trainer Overview

After being obese most of my life, I lost half my body weight in a healthy way becoming an athlete in the process. Starting that journey with diabetes, hypertension, reflux, and menopause and beating them in the process gives me the compassion and understanding of your challenges but also an experienced solution to those challenges!

Training Philosophy

I believe in individualized programming taking into account all the challenges each person faces with emphasis on safety while still pushing beyond one's self-imposed limitations. Whether weight lifting, cardio, Pilates, or yoga, I make it accessible to everyone regardless of age, weight, and challenges. We will find a way together to meet your goals in a way that is not harmful to your body and nurturing to body, soul, and spirit.

Bio

Although not obese as a child, I was always heavier than my peers. I was not athletic in any way and was always the last person that went to a team by default. I was on diets from about the age of twelve. I've tried just about every diet, every pill, every infomercial exercise gimmick, etc. In fact, I dieted myself right into morbid obesity. And if you're reading this, you know what I mean. I lost weight on every diet, but gained more once I went off. Hey, wait a minute! There's a lesson here, but more about that later.

Once I hit my 40's I resigned myself to being morbidly obese and no longer tried to do anything about it. At that point I thought it was no longer possible to become healthy and fit. I had hypertension, had been diagnosed diabetic, and had horrible reflux problems. Although a doctor may mention that I should lose some weight, not one ever told me these diseases were brought on by the obesity and could be reversed. By the time I hit my 50's I realized that I was becoming immobile and that I had to do something if I wanted to continue working and functioning. But I had tried just about every diet, so what to do????

And then it hit me. I had always followed those diets and programs put out for unhealthy, obese people and they didn't work. What were the healthy and fit people doing? So I began to study the nutritional plans of weight lifters and athletes. From experience I knew that swallowing the whole elephant at once usually left my body craving and rebelling and I would give up after a few weeks, so I decided to just slowly fine tune my lifelong nutrition plan (no longer a "diet" but something I could stay on for life). I knew that if that would help me have more energy, then I might be able to add on some exercise. Soon I was feeling more energetic and hopeful, losing some weight, and not having cravings and rebellings, so I added on an exercise program. In a few months I was down about 50 pounds and feeling more hopeful than I'd been in years, but then I stalled. Normally that would start a downhill slope, but my mindset had been changing also. I realized that the only way I could fail again is if I quit. So I sought out someone who had more knowledge than me in living healthy and began training with a Personal Fitness Trainer. Wow! I thought I knew what exercise was, but I was in for a real shock.

Under his tutelage and nurture I lost over half my body weight going from an initial start at 298 pounds to 144 pounds, and in the process I had a TOTAL transformation - body, soul, and spirit. In my middle 50's I am fitter and healthier not only in body but emotionally and mentally than I have ever been in my life. I cherish this new chance at life and accept it as a wonderful gift. Gifts are meant to be shared so I went back to school to become a Personal Fitness Trainer myself and am now motivating others to become WHOLLY TRANSFORMED.
