Bio
Being healthy and living an active lifestyle is something that I hold very dear to my heart. As a child, I was constantly outside. Being active and playing sports was a way of life. I started playing softball when I was nine and once I got to middle school, played basketball as well. I became the quintessential athlete. However, in April of 1997, my life changed when I was diagnosed with leukemia. I was a freshman in high school with hopes of going on to college on a softball scholarship. Those hopes and dreams seemed impossible to those around me, but I had a goal and every intention of achieving it. After three years of chemotherapy and many prayers later, I was told I was in remission and have been cancer free ever since. My experience with leukemia allowed me to know what helplessness felt like. During those three years, I was unable to control what was happening to my body, so when the doctors declared that I was healthy, I made a vow. From that day forward, I promised that I would live the rest of my life in optimum health and do anything in my power to help others be healthy, too.
