Personal Trainer Overview

I think that training should be fun, enjoyable, and fit into each client’s lifestyle. I truly believe that there is an inner athlete within each of us. Everyone starts somewhere and any exercise can be modified to meet a client’s current level of fitness and physical limitations, from the beginner to the more advanced and experienced clients. I realize that all too often the general population lacks the knowledge for proper exercise execution using correct form and technique as well as in designing safe and effective programs that will produce the results they desire. With that said, my main focus is to develop a solid base of knowledge and impeccable form and body awareness for each and every client.

The foundation and focus of my training programs and Booty Boot Camps are developed to improve cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, power, speed, agility, quickness, balance, coordination, and accuracy. I employ numerous advanced techniques and methods with regards to weight training by utilizing compound-sets, super-sets, tri-sets, giant sets, drop sets, burn out sets, changing rest periods, eccentric training, etc. In addition to the weight training techniques listed above, I also devote the focus of my programs to fast paced circuit training, interval training for weights and cardio, and sprint programs because they keep the heart rate high, build muscle, burn fat, increase metabolic rate, are time efficient, effective, and produce the results my clients seek. I love to introduce my clients to new training techniques and exercises using resistance bands, medicine balls, BOSU balls, kettlebells, TRX Suspension Training, and power sleds among many others. I have an extensive 17 year background, experience, and knowledge of plyometrics training, speed, agility, and conditioning drills, and sports specific training.

I encourage all of my clients to push past their fears and limitations and outside of their comfort zones, in doing so, clients feel empowered, strong in their minds and bodies, and they improve their self-confidence and self-esteem. I implement many modalities within my personal training, small group training, and boot camp programs. I feel that the variety keeps my clients excited, interested, motivated, and improves their results; it also allows for a better balanced and a more athletic and aesthetically pleasing physique.

Training Philosophy

I truly believe that health and fitness is a journey, not a destination. We can always strive to achieve a better quality of life. We all start somewhere and no one has achieved success overnight. The hardest part is having the courage to take the first step; however, you must realize you will never get anywhere if you don’t ever get moving!

From the beginning, I believe you must have:

Desire, Drive, Discipline, Dedication, Determination, Commitment, Sheer Will, and a Positive Attitude.

Have the COURAGE to take the first step.

BELIEVE in yourself.

Have FAITH.

Create a SUPPORT SYSTEM, even if it’s only you who is supporting yourself.

Ask for HELP.

Find your MOTIVATION.

Learn the value of SELF-ACCEPTANCE as you are now.

Seek GUIDANCE from knowledgeable professionals.

Set GOALS.

Give it TIME.

Have PATIENCE.

Maintain a POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

Hold yourself ACCOUNTABLE.

Realize that NUTRITION and TRAINING go hand in hand.

Contrary to popular belief, your body is made in the KITCHEN.

Eat moderate portions of healthy foods at regularly timed intervals.

Commit to your plan and program and learn the value of COMPLIANCE.

Your RESULTS are a reflection of your EFFORTS.

Track and MEASURE your PROGRESS, ask for FEEDBACK, and make ADJUSTMENTS.

Accept your role and RESPONSIBILITY for your failures and successes.

Face your FEARS, doing so will develop your strengths. Do one thing every day that scares you.

Push yourself past your COMFORT ZONE.

CELEBRATE SUCCESSES.

REWARD yourself.

PLAN ahead and be PREPARED.

Accept that there will be SETBACKS; learn how to move past them.

Have a BACK-UP plan ready for obstacles and setbacks.

Learn BALANCE.

DREAM, BELIEVE, ACHIEVE.

Be MINDFUL in all that you do.

LOVE yourself.

Be KIND to your body, you only have one in this lifetime.

Treat your body and its state of health with RESPECT.

Feed and nurture your mind, body, soul, and spirit every day.

Bio

I am an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise & Sports Science and a minor in Business Administration. I have been active in sports since I was young, playing softball, competing in gymnastics, and running. My siblings and I did not eat the most nutritious food during our youth; we consumed a lot of processed foods which were high in fat, sugar, and chemicals. It's puzzling that I was underweight for most of my childhood. I battled anorexia nervosa as a teenager; however, I gained a significant amount of weight from age 16-18 after quitting all sports and physical activities and eating poorly. My body image and self-confidence were at an all time low when I was overweight and I became withdrawn and depressed. It is very difficult for me to look back at pictures of myself from that time not only because I have to accept that is how I looked physically, but because it was such a tremendous struggle for me mentally and emotionally.

I joined World Gym (now Gold’s Gym) at age 16 with the money I received from my parents as a birthday present; it was there that I discovered weight training, and became fascinated with anatomy and physiology. I had originally planned on majoring in Accounting while I attended UT, but I quickly decided that the corporate world was not for me and changed universities and my major to Exercise & Sports Science at Texas State University. I still have the first issue of Muscle & Fitness I received as a gift from my oldest sister. I began looking at other fitness magazines as well and fell in love with the look of the fitness models; a little voice in my head shouted, “Hey, you can do this”! It wasn’t until I was a freshman in college when I lost 30 pounds by working out and making nutritious food choices. I lost 10 more pounds when I began competing in figure competitions shortly after college when I took my training and physique to a new level of fitness. As my body grew strong, so did my mind; my thoughts became more positive, my self-esteem, self-confidence, and body image all improved significantly.

Being in a gym and training feel like home to me and they have become a place of comfort and security, a place of solace, and a place where I can go to focus on creating a better me. I am able to relieve stress, face my fears and push myself mentally, physically, and emotionally beyond them and outside of my comfort zone. Doing so has enabled me to focus, learn, grow, taught me the values of discipline, hard work, and determination, and given me a sense of empowerment. I never seem to feel quite right on the days that I am not able to sweat through physical activity. I have found one of handful of things in my life that I am truly passionate about. I live, breath, eat, and sleep health, fitness, and nutrition and I am so grateful I have the opportunity to share my knowledge, skills, and unique personal experiences with my clients. In addition to training in the weight room and with plyometrics, I also enjoy running, yoga, cooking, baking, crafting, reading, movies, music, spending time with my family, friends, and dogs.

I would love to eventually return to college and earn a Master’s degree in Nutrition or Physical Therapy, but my main focus right now is to help my clients and build my business. I have a soft spot in my heart for children and teenagers as they are battling an obesity epidemic. I hope to develop a program for children and teenagers to encourage them to eat a healthy, balanced diet, increase their physical activity, and make health and fitness not only fun, but a lifestyle. I am currently studying for the ACE Lifestyle & Weight Management Coach certification and I plan to begin my teacher training to become a Registered Yoga Instructor.
