Bio
One of the biggest lessons I learned while growing up in my hometown was that you have to work very hard at everything you do but do it with sincerity, honesty and with a genuine heart. I believe that’s what has made me who I am today.
During my time in the Navy, there was a news story on television that opened my eyes to the obesity epidemic we have in the US. The broadcast showed people of all ages, including children, with despairing situations. I realized at that time I wanted to help people with their fitness and health needs and decided that I needed to educate myself about health and fitness. So I attended the University of Florida’s College of Health and Human Performance. As a student I worked in the university’s student fitness centers where I engaged the many students at UF with their fitness needs. One of my proudest moments as a University of Florida student was training the Gator athletes in the Florida weight room through the year of 2002. I had first hand experienced training athletes in the sports of football, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball, track and field, gymnastics, and swimming. Some of those names are Rex Grossman, Taylor Jacobs, Ben Troupe, Todd Johnson, Keiwan Ratliff, Dallas Baker, Jemalle Cornelius, Billy Latsko, DeShawn Wynn, Ray McDonald, Reggie Lewis, Aury Cruz, Benavia Jenkins, Nicole McCray, Jacque Robinson, Jane Collymore, and you probably get the picture that there are a lot to list. It was at the end of 2002 that I graduated from UF with my Bachelors of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences and a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.
Since 2002, I have been blessed with the opportunity to train the wonderful people of Gainesville. Immediately after graduation, I was hired by Cornerstone Academy to fill the position of Athletic Director for grammar and secondary sports, and teach physical education for grades one through twelve. Working at Cornerstone was a great foundation builder for me as a coach and an administrator. Besides meeting and getting to know so many fantastic people, I developed my coaching skills by coaching secondary and grammar sports teams. Even after leaving the Athletic Director’s position at Cornerstone in 2004 to start my own business, I still coach at Cornerstone. I am proud to say that the high school soccer team I train won the league championships in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The team also won a national championship title through National Association of Christian Athletes in 2007.
One of my favorite summertime things to do is directing my very own sports conditioning camp. I started my first camp in 2003 titled Fast Tracks and then renamed it Cross Champions in 2005.
I opened HomeBody Fitness during June of 2004 when a friend referred my name to another friend of theirs. I am a proud member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and have received the prestigious Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist – CSCS designation. I am certified CPR/AED through the American Heart Association.
Today, my life as a strength and conditioning coach is certainly rewarding because I get to train people from all walks of life making them feel better with the quality of their health. I am always excited and motivated to continue on when I see the excitement from my clients. It’s at that time when I know that I have done my job. Everyone should experience a better life. I challenge you to make your life better today.
