Bio
Born in a small village in Nigeria, Fatimat Yusuf-Olukoju was the sixth child of 9 – one of six girls in a culture that values boys – and she was afraid to have the life of her sisters and her mother. She wanted more. When a missionary in her village introduced her to sports at age 12, she saw the opportunity to break free. She’s been running ever since.
Through a lot of hard work and good mentors, Fatimat achieved great success. A two-time Olympic athlete, she placed 6th in the 400-meter race in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and won the silver medal with three other teammates in the relay. She also competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
Finally, in 2010, Fatimat decided to pursue her passion for fitness full-time and opened Village Coach Fitness. Fatimat is a certified fitness trainer (ISSA), HKC (Hardstyle Kettlebell) certified, Certified Holistic Health Coach (IIN) and a Resistance Band Specialist.
“If you’re not fit, you can’t do anything. Whether you’re a school teacher or a doctor, if you’re not physically fit, you’re limited,”
Fatimat says. “And I want people to know that when you are healthy, you can do whatever you want to do. Life without fitness is not a life.”
“Sports saved me. Fitness can save you as well.”
